Barcelona based Penique Productions, who are a collective of artists of different disciplines, have a common interest in “ephemeral installations”. Translated as; using an inflatable balloon that “expands and invades the space completely by itself “. The balloon fills the whole space, a unique shape and form is created due to the different features of that architectural space. The air inside the balloon acts like the buildings formation and presses against the structure creating it’s own unique form and shape. “Conquered by the inflatable, the place is transformed through the new texture, light and monochrome color”.
The film below shows the project taking place at Museo de la Ciudad in Mexico, located in the former convent of San José de Gracia it completely covers the buildings cloister. Depending on the time of day, the light would transform the installation, in strong sunlight becoming a sky blue colour to at night a warm artificial light creating a deep shade of blue. A fascinating use of space to create an installation, which loses it’s routine to become it’s own new identity.
